Lennox vs. Trane Systems

There are many similarities between Lennox and Trane air conditioning systems. Each has a range of models that can be separated into basic, better, and best to fit different budgets and home needs. Both manufacturers include sound-reduction insulation around their compressors as well as variable fans.

Both brands use R-410A refrigerant, which is considered more eco-friendly than hydrochlorofluorocarbon, which impacts the earth’s ozone layer.

Energy Efficiency

Lennox’s high-end and mid-range models are more energy-efficient than Trane’s. Their top models have a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) rating of 26 compared to Trane’s top models, with a SEER rating of 22. Likewise, Lennox’s mid-range models boast a 20 SEER rating while Trane’s is 18. Both manufacturers’ low-end models have a SEER rating of 16.

Features

The higher-end models from both companies have a range of features with slight differences in offerings:

Humidity Control

Trane’s Comfort-R runs the unit’s fan at slower speeds during start-up for increased humidity control during the cooling process. Lennox’s Climate IQ checks humidity levels and removes moisture from the air when necessary.

Wi-Fi & Smart Home Compatibility

Trane’s highest quality AC units use Comfort Link II smart thermostats, while Lennox’s units feature a variety of iComfort smart thermostats, including the M30, E30, and the ultra-smart S30. Lennox’s iComfort thermostats also work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Google Assistant. Their ultra-smart S30 and smart E30 thermostats work with Apple HomeKit as well.

Compressors

Trane’s compressors are exclusive to their units and tend to break down less often. Lennox uses generic Copeland scroll compressors or LG compressors, ensuring that the generic parts are more widely available and affordable when repairs are needed.

Price Comparison

The price of Lennox and Trane air conditioners varies widely depending on model, size, and specific features. However, when you compare similar options, the prices aren’t that different from one another. What makes a difference is Lennox’s periodic rebates and promotions.

Additionally, your installation may qualify for utility rebates or tax credits. Champion Air is proud to offer flexible financing options to ensure you’re getting the right products for your home without breaking your budget.
