What Affects the Price of Heat Pump Installations in Scottsdale?
The cost of installing a new heat pump in Scottsdale can vary based on several key factors. Understanding these can help you plan your budget more effectively:
- Type of Heat Pump: The type you choose—whether a ductless mini-split system or a central heat pump—will impact the cost. Each type has different installation requirements and associated costs.
- Size and Capacity: The required size and capacity of the heat pump for your home will also affect the price. Larger homes need more powerful systems, which are generally more expensive.
- Energy Efficiency: While high-efficiency heat pumps have a higher upfront cost, they can provide significant savings on energy bills over time. Choosing a unit with a higher SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating can be a worthwhile investment.

Heat Pumps Vs. Air Conditioners — Which Is Best For You?
Choosing between a heat pump and an air conditioner depends on your needs, climate, and preferences. Here’s a clear comparison to help you decide:
Functionality:
- Heat Pumps: Provide both heating and cooling by transferring heat from outside to inside, making them versatile year-round.
- Air Conditioners: Primarily cool your home; a separate heating system is required for colder months.
Energy Efficiency:
- Heat Pumps: Highly efficient as they transfer heat rather than generate it, potentially significantly lowering energy bills.
- Air Conditioners: Efficient in cooling, but rely on a separate system for heating, which can increase total energy usage.
Climate Suitability:
- Heat Pumps: Ideal for areas with mild winters; however, they may struggle in extreme cold without backup heating.
- Air Conditioners: Best for regions with hot summers and cold winters, typically used alongside a furnace for heating.
Cost and Maintenance:
- Heat Pumps: Higher initial cost but can save money on energy bills over time. Require regular maintenance for both heating and cooling functions.
- Air Conditioners: Usually less expensive upfront but maintaining separate systems for heating and cooling can lead to higher overall maintenance costs.
Environmental Impact:
- Heat Pumps: More eco-friendly due to lower energy use. High-efficiency models reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Air Conditioners: Traditional units have a higher environmental impact. Modern, high-efficiency models are available to reduce this impact.
Not All Heroes (Or Champions) Wear Capes
We received a call from Scottsdale resident Barbara F. in July asking if we could come out and look at her ten-year-old heat pump. After giving the system a once-over, the technician returned and shared some photos of his evaluation. Barbara was so fed up with the system by then that she was all-in on purchasing a new heat pump. So we looked over some options and she chose one that day.
Two days later, we arrived with Barbara’s new system. Our technicians carried out the job with impeccable standards that day, even as the heat crept up to 110 and beyond. Within 4 hours, the job was complete and Barbara had a fully functional system that won’t break down on her every year. We appreciate your business, Barbara!
Champion Air appreciates all of our customers and we are sincerely grateful for every review we receive from you!
“The experience I had with Champion Air AZ was so first class. Larry, who was the technician sent out and who could also give a quote on a new system, if needed, made a service call on a Tuesday. He checked my system and brought down from the attic a video of all the things he saw wrong with the system. My old system was put in by one of the ‘big guys’ that are always advertising on TV with a 10-year service contract included. From day one, every summer without fail for 10 years, the system failed over and over again with it having multiple constant repairs. It was obvious I needed a new HVAC system which I purchased from Champion Air.
Champion Air has the best technicians for installation, namely Christian and Chris, who did a fabulous install on the unit and it was completed in 4 hours from start to finish. They showed me a video of all the new work in the attic. The old system and all the other debris were gone by 3:30 the same day. I would highly recommend to everyone to call this company before they ever make a call to any of the ‘big guys’ on TV. You will not be disappointed and their prices are very, very good. Thank you, Champion Air AZ, for such great service.” – Barbara F.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size heat pump do I need for my home?
The size of the heat pump you need depends on several factors, including:
- The square footage of your home
- Insulation levels, age, and quality
- Ceiling height
- Number of windows and the quality of those windows
- The overall heating and cooling requirements to ensure successful operation
To determine the right size, an HVAC professional from Champion Air will conduct a detailed load calculation using Manual J software, which considers both internal and external heat loads. Some contractors will only look at the size of your existing system. But that’s a big no-no as far as we’re concerned.
So what’s at stake if your contractor installs the wrong sized system in your home? Installing a system that’s too large can lead to short cycling and inefficient operation, while a unit that’s too small may struggle to maintain the desired temperature. Neither of those things is acceptable, considering the amount of money these systems cost!
By choosing Champion Air, you’re assured of an accurately sized system. That’s a promise.
How can I maintain my heat pump to ensure its efficiency?
Regular maintenance is critical for keeping your heat pump running at peak efficiency. This includes changing air filters every 1-3 months to prevent airflow restrictions, which can reduce performance. Additionally, you should schedule annual professional inspections to check for refrigerant levels, inspect electrical components, and ensure the system’s heating and cooling functions are working properly.
Keeping the outdoor unit free of debris, such as leaves and dirt, is also essential to ensure proper airflow and avoid strain on the system. At Champion Air, we offer comprehensive maintenance plans that include these essential services. Regular maintenance not only extends the lifespan of your heat pump but also improves energy efficiency, saving you money on utility bills in the long run.
What is the lifespan of a heat pump?
The average lifespan of a heat pump ranges from 10 to 15 years, though this can vary based on factors such as system usage, local climate, and the quality of installation and maintenance.
From firsthand knowledge, we’ll tell you that heat pumps work overtime in climates like Arizona. And it’s not just the summer we’re talking about. It gets cold here, too. And you can expect your system to be running almost all year long.
However, with proper care—including routine maintenance and timely repairs—your heat pump can continue operating efficiently for many years. At Champion Air, our certified technicians not only provide top-notch installation services but also offer maintenance and repair solutions that help extend the life of your heat pump. Our best advice is to join our ChampionCare program and let us handle your maintenance for you. You’ll also enjoy a ton of other benefits, too!
